Where we rode:
Over 300 miles through the hill country in central Texas,
starting from Mom & Dad's in North San Antonio...
(from Dad's notes) First after
picking up the Harleys at Javelina Harley Davidson at Exit 546, IH-10
south of Boerne; we rode up I-10 to Boerne where we found Rt. 46 and we
proceeded west until we intersected Rt. 16 on which we rode into Bandera
for a brief rest stop at the DQ. Then north a few miles on 16 until we
got to Rt. 470 when we turned west, through a little town of Tarpley,
and on to an intersection of Rt. 187. Going north on 187 until the town
of Vanderpool, where we came to Rt 337 and we turned westward on this
road going on into Leakey. After taking some pictures around the river
on the east side of Leakey, we ate lunch at Mama Chole's Mexican Restaurant, gassed
up and headed west again on 337 until we reached Camp Wood. Here we
turned north on Rt 55 for a few miles, when we came to Rt 335 which
continued on north where it intersected Rt 41. We turned east on 41 and
went some 20 miles when we came to Rt. 336 which we turned south on and
went back to Leakey, where we gassed up once again. Then we continued
east on 337 until we reached Vanderpool and 187 again, and here we
headed north on 187 until we reached Rt 39 which we took eastward,
through Ingram, Hunt and into Kerrville. There we picked up I-10 again
which we took south/east to Rt. 1604 and over to 281 and home. It was a
great ride and the weather was superb. I'm already looking forward to
more Hill Country rides; there must be a lot more that we haven't seen
yet, but it will be hard to improve on this one.
In returning the bikes on Tuesday morning, Annie rode with me. We took 281 North to FM46 West, to Boerne and stopped at Guadalupe State Park for a few minutes.
