eurocop: Major climb today...
All,
(Danno here) Found an Internet cafe in this tiny
little mountain town of Einseideln (by the way Mom, I'm drinking their version
of Sprite right now...). Annie's taking a short nap; we had a major climb
today, grinding about 2000 feet in 4km. Ouch. I think the alptitude
may be affecting her a little today. Actually, we may not be officially in
the Alps, although we can see them.
Yesterday was interesting. We had a
relatively uneventful ride from Stein am Rhein to Zürich. Not
thrilled with riding through the big city, we thought we may ride on through
Zürich and stay down the lake a bit. That is, until we discovered
yesterday evening was the beginning of a three day celebration on the
waterfront, commemorating Zürich's 150th birthday. I guess this area
was half German and half French before that. Anyway, the festival was way
cool. Lots of bands, food, bier, carnival rides, and fireworks. Well
worth the stay. Saw a wide diversity of people trying to avoid the
rain. It was a fun time.
Today's climb is supposed to be the worst we'll
see. There sure are tons of bikers up here. Not just touring bikes,
but road bikes, mountain bikes. I guess folks love their precious few
months of nice weather. We really can't blame 'em, but we also can't
relate.
Overall, the legs are holding up just
fine. I have thoughts of getting some fat knobby tires in Interlaken,
ditching the bags, and trying to get in some real mountain biking. We're
going to take a few days to check-out the Grinderwald area, and probably take
the loop out to zoom on the Eiger (of Eiger Sanction fame, Clint
Eastwood, 1970's).
Thanks to Sharc-n-Amy and Mom-n-Dad for dropping
us a note. Keep 'em coming.
Talk to ya'll soon,
- Annie and
Danno
