1977-1991 Professor and Dairy Science Section Leader, Animal Science Department, Texas A&M University Held a 50% Teaching and 50% Research appointment. Research included studies of buffers, niacin, chilled drinking water, whole cottonseed, supplemental fat, and ways to detoxify gossypol in cottonseed and cottonseed meal. 1964-1997 Technical Writing, Editing and Publishing Published extensively in both the popular press and in anonymous peer-reviewed journals. Reprints available upon request. Served 6 years on the Editiorial Board of the Journal of Dairy Science and for 3 years as a member of the Journal Management Committee. 1964-1977 Assistant and Associate Professor, Animal Science Department, Cornell University. Held a 60% Dairy Extension and 40% Research appointment. Research was problem-oriented, much of which was directed towards the rationale for emphasis on the totally-mixed ration (TMR) system of feeding. Studies completed and published in both the popular and scientific press included those factors affecting the nutritive value of corn silage, free-choice mineral supplements for dairy cattle, forage preference, and NPN use by lactating dairy cows. 1958-1964 Dairy Husbandman, Dairy Cattle Research Branch, Animal Science Research Division, USDA, Beltsville, MD. Worked in the Energy Metabolism Laboratory and completed research towards the Ph.D., which focused on the use of metabolizable energy by lactating dairy cows fed diets varying in the forage to concentration ratio.
